Pitmaston House is a Grade II Listed building situated in Moseley, Birmingham. The project was a restoration project completed with direct cooperation with Birmingham City Council’s Conservation Architect and Planning Department.
The project was delivered under a traditional procurement route, which included a full strip out back to shell and core, a full environmental clean and strip of asbestos as well as structural alterations. A complete new M&E infrastructure was provided, with a new external sunken plant area, new risers throughout and a central new lift to serve each new floor.
The scheme also included extensive restoration work to the existing features, which included sash and crittall windows repairs, repointing and replacement brickwork including new stone chimney caps and the stripping and redecoration to all gutters, fascias, and soffits as well as all wrought-iron balconies externally.
Internally, existing features were retained, with feature mouldings, skirtings and cornices as well as a full restoration to the marble clad reception and timber paneled board room.
The project was delivered by careful program management which included the separation of the project into three deliverables, Demolition & Alterations, Restoration Works and Fit Out each carefully managed and controlled to ensure optimum productivity and quality.
Externally the works included a new car park area, plaining and resurfacing of the existing entrance and car park as well as hard and soft landscaping throughout the grounds.
The project has received high praise and commendation from a number of stakeholders with the project being listed to raise the ‘Listed Building’ conditions to Star status.
